Web Design Process
Rainbow Computing Web Site Design
Web sites vary tremendously in their size and complexity. However, there are always three parts to web site development. Rainbow Computing Services guides you through the process with the goal of a wonderful web site and your complete satisfaction.
PART I - Planning and Graphic Development
This is a very important part of web site design. It lays the foundation. During this phase we discuss the goals of the site, the performance expectations of the site, and who will be the target audience. Then we discuss the layout and look of the site including colors, graphics/logos, photos, font and an outline for the site. A web site planning questionnaire guides this process and ensures details are attended to. Depending on how much control you want over the design, this part of the process can be very time consuming for you with lots of details to approve, but having a solid foundation reduces the likilhood of costly changes later in the process.
PART II - Web Site Building, Evaluation and Revision
This phase utilizes the planning information and professional web design software to first create a general template/guide web page. Once this is approved, the web site is assembled. Draft versions are published. You evaluate the site and revisions are made accordingly. When you are satisfied the site will be declared publishable!! Please note: We will ensure your satisfaction, however, as with any creative endeavor and many computer publishing processes, it is very, very difficult, time consuming and often disappointing to try and reach total perfection. It is best to take the attitude that web sites are continuing projects - each version better than the previous.
PART III - Publishing, Maintenance and Updating
This phase of web site design includes:
• Domain name registration.
• Publishing site (see hosting).
• Providing you with a CD copy of your site in htm format.
• Quarterly web site checks to ensure the integrity of links and such.
• Statisic reports, as requested.
• Updates to site. (example: price changes)
SUMMARY
These three parts often overlap and it is not unusual to move back and forth continually from one part to another. Sometimes the process can seem lengthy or overwhelming. Understanding the process helps make the end result worthwhile.
Time expectations:
The amount of time involved in web site design is dependant on size and complexity. You will be provided with an itemized time sheet through each phase of design. If requested, you can give a specified amount of time at which point requiring a report on what has been accomplished. To get an idea of time expectations, see our portfolio for actual sites, their sizes and number of hours billed.
